I was dreaming of Moroccan Harost Balls, with dates raisons and nuts as Aymane Yacine sailed to victory in race three, the first of the day to use older ingredients. I’m not suggesting that Aymane is nuts by the way, or even that he’s got Harost Balls, it was just that I had time to dream of Moroccan treats as he took the flag ten seconds clear of second. He really is a rising star and I wish him well as he looks towards his owner/driver racing career. Jack Wilson started and finished his run from second and at the line he crossed a serviette clear of Luke Watkins and James Walkington who flashed by as one. Sam Todman missed getting a mention in this paragraph by three hundredths of a second. Shame really.
Our man with the neck collars had to readjust his arms a few centimetres higher for race six as this was the second outing of the 11-16 brigade. Again Aymane Yacine excelled as he shot from the obscurity of eighth to the glare of publicity that is another race win. Sam Todman raced valiantly to cling on to his P2 start which he achieved with a second to spare over James Cossins who had worked his way up from dishwasher to head cook along the way. Luke Gherkins took fourth and was washed down with a glass of James Walker-(ington).
James Walkington started from pole in race nine and I’m betting he wished it had been a four lapper because in the fifth lap Aymane Yacine caught him and slipped by for his third win of the day. James crossed just a small hors d'oeuvre behind. Ben Linsdell makes his debut in third place after gaining a couple of pounds during this gastronomic delight. That just leaves James Cossins and Sam Todman in need of a bit of garnishing and we have the top five in all their glory.
Time now for the 11-16 main course which as expected featured Aymane Yacine as the prominent ingredient. He won but didn’t have it all his own way as Sam Todman kept up the pressure all the way. James Walkington fell one place under this pressure and crossed for a well earned bronze and not a second too soon as James Cossins was right behind. Luke Watkins completed this top five and was chased home by Jack Wilson, Ben Linsdell, Harry Sisley and Reiss Summer Berry pudding and custard. As Aymane had been the star of the older group so had Taylor Maloney shone in the 8-13’s.
