Buckmore Junior Club 11-16 Summer Round 4 (Summer Series)

Stephen Harrison got the ball rolling today with a fine win in heat one where he came off pole and despite some very talented opposition made it stick all the way to the flag. Mind you it was close which is just how it should be. Right on his tail came Nathan Baily who also started his run from the front row. Half a second behind was Aymane Yacine who has quickly established a reputation as a fast but fair driver. His drive was nothing short of highly impressive as he started way back in the dungeon that is 12th on the grid. The Mighty Midget Carl Williams ended up in fourth after starting in third, not the way it usually goes for him. Fifth was taken by Sam Babington who began his five laps from that self same spot.
Aymane Yacine took the win in heat five and no great surprise there as he started from pole and given his lack of lard he gets away fast. Jamie Cummings wasn’t going to make it easy for him though and after making his way up from tenth on the grid closed in on the leader until he was just four tenths behind at the flag. Seth James had an unlucky morning in the younger group where he became the butt of everyone else’s mistakes but his afternoon got off to a far better start when he took third in this race. Too good to hurry, Murray Knott collected ten points for fourth which left nine for Jay Rudd.
Which just leaves one more heat before the finals and this proved to be a fine climax as the front three streamed over the line very much as one. Just a nose in front was Ivan May-Jones with Connor Burdett who had driven his socks off after starting 12th on the grid. Now barefoot he crossed half a second behind the leader and a similar distance in front of Aymane Plasticine. Fourth was bagged by Andy Medhurst up from eighth and just a spit ahead of Sam Logan. Note: I’ve used the human spitting distance as I believe Llamas can spit further.
The A final was exciting as always and from the start it was all change. The kart allocation didn’t favour pole man Toby Cook who lost a bit off the start. Rhys Terry had a good engine under him but got caught up in someone else’s incident and also fell back which was a shame as his P2 was a seasons best. Micro Man shot away and off into the lead which he steadily increased to a solid six seconds. Also on the way up was the Mighty Midget who achieved a good second but the star was B final winner Stephen Harrison came all the way up the order to finish on the podium with a bronze. Toby Cook still scored well with a fourth and it was good result for fifth placed Conor Jux-Chandler. Then it was Keiran Tison for sixth , one ahead of his start position. The Cummings’ brothers came across the line a split second apart with Ryan just ahead of Jamie by a hundredth. The rest of the pack were led home by Ivan May-Jones with Rhys Terry, Tom Hill, Aymane Yacine and Nathan Baily completing the order.

Buckmore Junior Club 11-16 Summer Round 3 (Summer Series)

Things got interesting in heat three when we had a dead heat for fourth but more of that in a moment. We did remove Sam Babington from this race when it was clear the kart wasn’t getting full throttle. On Saturday Aymane Yacine had conquered all to win the gold and here he was again taking a win in the more experienced waters of the Championship group. He took full advantage of his second row start to get to the front and stay there and without the hindrance of traffic he built a solid four second lead. A blinding drive by Rhys Terry saw him go from last on the grid to second where he crossed a fraction (I hate fractions....and algebra) clear of Jamie Cummings. Joe Robson and the Mighty Midget Carl Williams came towards us side by side so I leaned over better to see the finish line. Bill and I were of one mind, it was a dead heat and so I have awarded each driver ten points. I love it when it gets like that.
Jay Rudd came off the blocks like he was on nitrous and he quickly established a solid lead. Yet again we find Aymane Yacine getting a mention, this time for his stunning back row to second sprint. His names are unusual, so I Google’d both only to come up with a DJ on both counts. I must have too much time on my hands. The Junior reports are riddled with Cummings which must be a bit tough on the family purse strings and this time the spotlight falls on Ryan who rose through the ranks to finish a good third and just in time to ensure Will Morris could go no higher than fourth. That just leaves time for the micro dot that is Jesse Chamberlain who climbed to fifth.
More contact marred race nine as half the field got to see the warning board during just five laps. There were indeed plenty of comings and goings but mainly Jamie Cummings who won by two seconds after a second row start. It’s that man again, Aymane Yacine this time up from fourth to second. Stuart Anderson drove a superb contact free race from the very back to finish a close third. Jeremy Parker finished fourth and then a second later it was Sam Babington up from P12 to take fifth.
Micro man met the Midget in the final as Jesse Chamberlain and Carl Williams went head to head and I have to say I have been looking forward to watching these two race it out at the sharp end of a final for ages. There was very little to choose between them for the full eight laps but at the line it was Carl by seven tenths from Jesse and neither driver had collected any warnings which just shows which is the quickest way. (I nearly went off on one again then but I think I got away with it) Keiran Tison scored well again with a podium bronze and a skip full of points which now show him second in the series on total points though he drops to fifth after dropped rounds, though it’s early days yet. A fine drive by Stephen Harrison earned him fourth by a couple of tenths from Tom Hill and Toby Cook completed the top six. Jamie Cummings led the rest of the field which included 8th placed Aymane Yacine who got into a tangle at the first hairpin or he would have been looking at another podium in my opinion. Then it was Ivan May-Jones, Jem Howard, Luke Pattinson, Sam Lawrence and Reece Canell. Sam Lawrence got the fastest lap with a 34.259.

Aymane Yacine Takes Gold at Buckmore Park Rookie Race

Is it a bird? Is it a fish? No, it’s both, it’s Jay Rudd powering kart 18 to a win in heat two, an 11-16 race, where he too had the benefit of a front row start. Right on his tailfin came talented new driver Aymane Yacine who wasn’t going to let a little thing like starting from tenth bother him. Thomas Goodwin took a Goodthird after making two gains during the race. Sam Beninigsen repeated the start fourth, stay fourth pioneered in heat one but Reiss Leconte made large gains coming up from eleventh to fifth.

Crow Perch repeated his earlier win in heat two but this time he did it under a pseudonym. It was like BBC Gold (I guess as I don’t have a TV), all repeats as Aymane Yacine again secured second by throwing a rope round its neck and dragging it to the ground. Knowing my fondness for alliteration Matt Meekings gained three places to take third and Reiss Leconte earned another plug for his sponsor (www.hotwheelzuk.com) when he moved up to fourth which left Matthew Dryden the honour of ending this sentence as he took fifth.

Refreshed after their short break we wheeled out the old codgers for their remaining heat where Aymane Yacine kept his name in the frame by taking a sound win after a midfield start. Sam Bennigsen had a good run too, making three gains to finish a close second. Yet again Thomas Goodwin spoiled the joke (really?) by coming third. Up to fourth from eighth and a first mention in this report came John Frith-Haines a sort of Frith of Fourth. It must be easy to Conner Burdett, about as easy as conning a little old lady I guess but young Connor was more interested in racing and to prove it he came fifth and squeezed into this paragraph nicely.

We then ran the trophy bearing A final for the 11-16’s where we watched Aymane Yacine sail to victory by over six seconds over a delighted Sam Bennigsen who drove a fine race. John Frith-Haines pipped Matthew Meekings to the line but to be fair Matt was pretty occupied defending his position from a determined attack by Jay Rudd. A similarly close battle was raging for sixth and after ten laps the victor here was Connor Burdett who crossed half a second clear of Reiss Leconte with Thomas Goodwin securing eighth a moment later. Daniel Love led Matt Dryden, Jeremy Parker and Henry Proto home.
