Buckmore Junior Club 11-16 Summer Round 6 (Summer Series); Aymane Wins from Jamie & Keiran

Sometimes a guy can just try too hard and over drive himself into a poor finish. I’ve seen it when wives come to watch though this seems to happen less with the junior club drivers for some reason. A case in point today is Callum Spencer who had spent the morning being watched by a relative making all the right noises about helping with the race budget. As a result Callum made mistakes and failed to feature in the A final. With his mystery benefactor, or uncle Phil now back on the M1 Callum found form and went lights to flag with two seconds to spare over the far more experienced Keiran Tyson who rose from eighth. Keiran was pushed all the way by the human dynamo that is Aymane Yacine who crossed a third of a thingy later for third. Alex Nevill drove a consistent race to finish slap bang where he started, in fourth, but at least he had the satisfaction of keeping the Mighty Midget Carl Williams at (Herne) bay. Rhys Terry found his race spoiled when he became the result of a mistake by Harry Sutton which resulted in Rhys getting a chance to view the oncoming traffic.

By race eleven the rain had headed off to taunt some other sport and the strong breeze had sort of hair dried the track again. The line up was pretty star studded for this heat and we were on the edge of our seats as the lights went green. Aymane Yacine turned out to be top dog after capitalising on his P2 start. The poleman was Toby Cook but in this battle he was overcome first by Aymane then by Keiran Tyson. A lap or so later the Mighty Midget slipped by for third and finally Sam Lawrence took fourth from him. Strange though as Toby again set the second fastest lap of the race. Stuart Anderson failed to complete a single lap as the pit crew had overlooked locking his seat which suddenly shot back leaving him bereft of pedal access. We rescheduled him for race twelve.

If a few drivers had found themselves rudely deposited in the B final then it follows that a few names would show in the A final, and so it came to pass. The poleman for today was (apologies in advance) Jamie Vunnijd’s who shared the front row with Kieran Tyson. The scene is set when I tell you the second row consisted of Jesse Chamberlain and Alice Goad. The race was far better disciplined than the shambles of an A final delivered by the younger group but there were still a few liberties taken that will be addressed privately with the drivers concerned away from the glare of publicity. In an exciting for some and bitterly disappointing for others race we watched Aymayne Yacine come all the way from the depths of the back row to snatch the lead which he then stretched to nearly three seconds. This guy must have a season ticket for the podium. Poleman Jamie Cummyhns (nearly!) put in a bravura performance for which he was rewarded with the silver by half a second from a very focused and determined Keiran Tyson. Murray Knott had his best result of the season so far when he crossed in fourth. Jesse Chamberlain was very disappointed to find himself in fifth but at the end of the day he has ended up just two points off the Championship lead with another round to go. Seth James had returned to form this afternoon (compared to the morning that is) and led the second wave from sixth. Following him home for tea were Ryan Dummigns (nearly there), Tom Storrar, Alice Goad, Alex Nevill new boy Danny Hurlock , the Mighty Midget who’d got tripped up while challenging for a top three place, and first timer to this age group, Callum Spencer.
Keiran Tyson leads the series by a mighty small margin of just two points over Jesse Chamberlain and then it remains real close between the Mighty Midget, Jamie Vimmibg’s, Aymane Yacine and Ivan May-Jones. Ooh, I can feel the tension from here.
